Golden Knights hold off Wild in Game 6, advance to Round 2

If there’s one thing Vegas knows, it’s that the house always wins.

The Vegas Golden Knights gritted out a third-straight tight win, downing the Wild 3-2 in Game 6 to win their first-round series and advance to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Thursday’s victory came on the back of two overtime wins to retake control of the series against the wild-card side.

Jack Eichel played hero in this one, scoring his first goal of the post-season on a breakaway set up beautifully by Mark Stone in the second period. He also notched an assist on Vegas’ first goal of the game — a power-play marker from Shea Theodore.

Stone scored the dagger late in the third period, batting the puck out of mid-air to build up a two-goal lead that put the game just out of reach despite a follow-up from Ryan Hartman only 30 seconds later.

The Golden Knights, a year after failing in their title defence, now advance to Round 2, where they await the winner of the series between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers are currently up 3-2 with Game 6 later on Thursday.
