How to sightread a fight

Looking for more of a conglomerate discussion on things we look out for when a fight starts, you don’t know either fighter. Not even the gym they fight out of, could be a prelim fight or it could be a main event for a smaller organization. Have you ever seen two fighters touch gloves and had a feeling? I wanted to talk about that more, as I’ve trained a little bit and I’m assuming a lot of you also have as well we have some type of knowledge about distance, speed, the general arsenal of strikes, etc. Moreover I wanted to just compile a list and get some feedback whether these are good tells or if they don’t tell the whole story. But just as general rules (1.)Feints and fakes are the first one I look for on the feet but more so on both ends (Is the dude reacting to the fakes, and what are they looking for?) basically if there’s no set up, wasted movement, I have to assume the other guy is actually the one in control. Sometimes people get away with it though especially in MMA that spastic shitty striking (2.) Blocking Knees with arms/Excessive punching to the body in the clinch, should be obvious but it’s not always the case as a general rule though usually shows a lack of awareness or a lack of other tools (3.) Looking past their opponent (GREEN FLAG) idk how to describe this one but they almost look empty when they’re throwing their shots, if I see a dude throw a nasty left hook and their face barely changes while throwing it that’s usually who I’m going with Please add more or critique the ones I picked I’d love to know what you guys look out for submitted by /u/Sedita [link] [comments]
