For the first time in their short history, the Seattle Kraken are making a change at GM.

Incumbent Ron Francis was promoted to president of hockey operations while Jason Botterill will take over as general manager, the team said on Tuesday.

Francis had served as Seattle’s general manager since 2019, taking the job just months after the expansion franchise was approved.

Botterill was hired as assistant general manager in 2021. He was general manager of the Buffalo Sabres from 2017 to 2020 and held the title of interim GM with the Penguins for less than a month in 2014.

Seattle fired head coach Dan Bylsma on Monday after just one season.

After a 100-point season that saw them make the playoffs in 2022-23, the Kraken have taken a step back in each of the two following years.

Francis is scheduled to speak with the media later Tuesday.
