Panthers’ Brad Marchand sets age record in Cup Final

Brad Marchand is aging nicely.

The 37-year-old Florida Panthers forward became the oldest player to score in the first three games of a Final when he opened the scoring on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers just 56 seconds into the contest, per Sportsnet Stats.

Marchand is two years older than Hockey Hall of Famer Frank Mahovlich was when he accomplished the feat with the Montreal Canadiens in 1973.

Marchand’s Game 3 opener was the third consecutive goal he has scored for Florida. The second goal in that run was the overtime winner in Game 2, tying the best-of-seven series at 1-1.

Marchand now has four goals in the Final and eight in the playoffs after being acquired from the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline.

The Halifax native is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. His recent play figures to increase his price tag.
