Sam Bennett: The Road Warrior.

The Florida Panthers‘ star forward has been on a tear in these playoffs and set an NHL record for most road goals over a single run with 12 in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Bennett, playing his usually chippy style in the first period, found some open ice in the middle of the offensive zone and tucked away a simple one-timer on the power play for his team’s opening goal.

It was his 13th goal of the post-season and his 12th on the road, doing so in 12 away games. Overall, Bennett has 13 goals and 19 points in 19 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With the goal, he broke a tie with Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele, who scored 11 road goals in eight games on a run in 2018. He finished with 14 goals in 17 games in that run.

Bennett’s production has been on a huge upswing with the lights at their brightest; he finished with only 25 goals and 51 points in 76 regular-season games. His goals-per-game have increased from 0.33 in the regular season to 0.67 coming into Game 2 in the playoffs.

The Panthers, as a whole, have been extremely effective on the road. In Game 1, they broke the NHL record for most away goals in a single playoff year with 51, passing the 1993 Los Angeles Kings. Florida has an 8-3 record away from Sunrise.
