Matthew Tkachuk could find himself in trouble with the NHL.

The Florida Panthers forward was handed a major penalty and sent off after landing a hit on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel in the final minutes of Game 3.

The hit occurred right as Guentzel made a play on Anthony Cirelli’s empty-netter to give the Lightning a 5-1 lead with five minutes left in the game.

Guentzel did remain in the game as his teammates confronted Tkachuk following the hit. After the game, the Lightning forward said he hopes the NHL will consider discipline on Tkachuk for the hit.

During his career, Tkachuk has been suspended four times but the last time he was disciplined was back in 2017.

This series has featured its fair share of rough play with Tampa’s Brandon Hagel suspended for Game 3 following a late hit on Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov.

Tampa Bay cut Florida’s series lead to 2-1 and will host Game 4 on Monday at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+.
