San Jose has signed forward Egor Afanasyev to a one-year, $800,000 contract after he spent the 2024-25 season with CSKA Moscow of the KHL, the team announced Monday.

The San Jose Sharks are bringing a player back from the KHL.
San Jose has signed forward Egor Afanasyev to a one-year, $800,000 contract after he spent the 2024-25 season with CSKA Moscow of the KHL, the team announced Monday.
“Egor brings a combination of size and skill to our forward group,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a statement. “We are excited to bring him into our organization as he continues his growth in the North American game.”
Afanasyev returned to the KHL for the 2024-25 season after spending the last three seasons in the Nashville Predators organization, bouncing between the NHL and AHL levels.
In 19 NHL games over two seasons, the Russian winger scored one goal and was minus-8 while averaging 11:04 of ice time.
He found some success in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals in the 2023-24 season, finishing with 27 goals and 27 assists in 56 regular-season games.
With CSKA Moscow last season, Afanasyev had seven goals and 14 assists in 53 games.
He was originally drafted by the Predators 45th overall in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft. He spent the 2019-20 season with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League before being loaned to CSKA Moscow for the 2020-21 season.
The 24-year-old was acquired by the Sharks from the Predators in exchange for forward Ozzy Wiesblatt in June 2024.
