Is an MMA membership better if you struggle to motivate yourself to go to the gym and figure out gym life?
Hello everyone. I have had a gym membership for almost a year and used to go semi-frequently but due to school and depression I haven't been going at all for a recent bit and am looking to cancel my membership. Gym membership costs have skyrocketed where I am and any more affordable gym is far from my house as I do not drive and furthermore utilize public transportation in my area which is often times unreliable and infrequent. One of my friends encouraged me to do MMA as he pointed out that I'm 6'4" and have a slender build (I really don't eat much and I was raised vegetarian and my parents don't cook or allow any meat in our house so unless I'm eating out sometimes which I can't really afford right now I don't really eat it) so I have heavy potential and he told me how he would have faced a worse predicament in life if he didn't commit to MMA as he also had serious struggles in life. I feel like I lack discipline and ambition to change and even the times when I've been able to go to the gym I've been confused on what exercises and machines and would routinely ask chatgpt and I don't have any in person friends in the area either as I know people do work out with their friends but that's not an option for me. While I do know memberships to MMA gyms cost significantly more, I am thinking of just picking up a second job or increasing hours at my current job to cover an MMA gym membership (as well as secure a car down-payment more importantly) because I don't really think just working out in the gym is enough for me and I think it'd be a great way to meet friends of diverse backgrounds as well as discipline me more to have more self-control and to have functional strength instead of just working out for body building. The only reason I ask here is because I'm wondering whether MMA would really be better and if many individuals who also couldn't commit to the gym fared better in MMA or if instead I just need to look at more resources on working out at the gym although I already have tried to do some research of my own with regards to it. submitted by /u/SomeRandomGuy069 [link] [comments]
