Senators’ Nick Jensen undergoes hip surgery, GM says no timeline for return

After helping the Ottawa Senators make the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2018, Nick Jensen is still feeling the lasting effects.
While speaking to reporters at the team’s annual charity golf tournament on Friday, general manager Steve Staios confirmed reports that the defenceman underwent hip surgery.
Jensen made 71 regular-season appearances with the Senators last season, putting up 21 points (three goals, 18 assists) while finishing a plus-18.
Staios didn’t divulge details of the injury or subsequent injury but noted that there was no timeline for recovery at this point.
According to a report by Bruce Garrioch’s Ottawa Citizen, Jensen studied all his options and ultimately felt surgery was the best route to take.
The 34-year-old was a mainstay of Ottawa’s roster throughout the 2024-25 campaign, ranked eighth on the roster for both total and average ice time, (20:13) while fifth for blocked shots (95).
And despite seemingly being hampered by the injury throughout the post-season, Jensen still played all six games in the Senators’ first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and finished fifth in average ice time (20:56) and eighth in blocked shots (4), albeit going pointless.
“Nick is an absolute warrior,” Staios said last month during the team’s end-of-season availability. “To be able to continue to perform at the level he did with the injury he was dealing with, it’s the character of the individual.”
